The Power of a Checklist
If you’re like me, it can be like pulling teeth to get my kids to do even the simplest thing. Especially now that I have five(!!) kids, it has been harder than ever. As I approached the end of my maternity leave with the twin boys, which happened to coincide with the start of school, I knew I had to figure something out. One of the game changers has been using a digital calendar (more to come on that in a future post!) but an even simpler strategy has been implementing a morning and evening checklist. These are lists of their most basic tasks (brush teeth, get dressed, prep for tomorrow, etc.) - but the simple act of being able to grab a marker and check it off has been all the motivation they need! They run to the checklist command center and elbow their way past each other (because hey, they’re still my kids lol) to check off each task. It makes them feel like they are accomplishing something (which kids love) and saves me from having to harp on them. We’ll see if it stands the test of time throughout the school year, but so far I’m very happy with it!
I’m sharing the template I created - hope you find it useful! I have multiple kids and each has their own designated color, so I changed up some of the font colors for each of them.
